Sure, the circumstances may be different but the concept is replicated in many instances. If you are short throw on a pair of heels and put on a monochromatic outfit to elongate your overall silhouette. If you feel you do not have enough waist definition, put on a belt to cinch in the waist. If you feel you lean more towards the heavier side, you can put on clothes with vertical stripes or dark colours to create a slimming effect.We create an illusion of perfection by carefully paying attention to concealing imperfections and enhancing strengths. But here’s the thing, cover ups are a temporary solution to a long term problem . At the end of the day, you will strip down and remain with the problem areas.
Many of us despise vulnerability. We are afraid of having our faults and weaknesses revealed to others. In fact, we try our best to hide them. We fear betrayal and judgement from others. But, here’s the catch, unless you deal with the issues that have taken root in your life, those problem areas will sprout. We sometimes deal with contentious issues superficially not knowing that the insecurities will continue being deeply entrenched in our lives. These insecurities will keep sprouting and have the potential to destroy existing relationships unless dealt with from the root.
Cover ups usually are associated with guilt and shame. There is usually something we are trying to hide. When we go to God, we can go naked and unashamed before Him – with our faults, weaknesses and insecurities exposed. He does not condem you for your past mistakes and weaknesses. He does not criticize you for mishaps done. He is loving and willing to forgive and rid you of all the past pain and regret. This prevents the insecurities present in your life from creating a toxic environment and poisoning existing relationships. When you go to God openly, you allow Him to turn things around for you such that what was initially intended to harm you works in your favour. Remember that the grace of God obliterates shame, guilt and feelings of worthlessness.
